Clean Harbors uses CATnap^TM, an exclusive technique for quick and safe unloading of catalysts from petroleum processing units.  The CATnap process allows the spent catalyst to be removed in an air atmosphere versus purging the reactor with nitrogen and performing inert entry.

Unit shutdown time may be decreased by as much as 48 hours by reducing or negating the hydrogen stripping process.  Elimination of dust during the unloading process increases productivity and health and safety in and around the reactor being serviced.

Shorter Unit Shutdown Time

Because the CATnap process allows for the reactor to be cooled down in a liquid state, the need for hot hydrogen stripping can be eliminated in most cases.  This can decrease the unit’s shutdown time by as much as 48 hours depending on the size of the unit.

Eliminates Inert Entry

CATnap technology passivates pyrophoric or self-heating catalysts by the application of a proprietary coating chemical.  Catalyst and equipment surfaces are coated with an organic film, which retards oxygen penetration and reaction.  The passivated catalyst can be unloaded under air, which eliminates many of the hazards and expenses related to inert entry.

Eliminates Airborne Dust

CATnap coats the smaller particulates and dust particles, which typically bind to the larger catalyst particles during unloading, thereby eliminating dust.

Increases Vacuum Unloading Rates

Dust is essentially eliminated during the vacuum process, which greatly enhances the vacuum rates for unloading due to increased efficiencies in the bag house filtration systems of the vacuum equipment.
